about

Percussion: drum soloist, keyboards, timpani and a whole store full of sounds feature in Deranged Drums on Digital Vistas. Composed for two percussion ensembles, a trio (Vistas A to S) and a quintet (Vistas 1 to 16). The order of performance is determined by the audience just before the start and I am happy for you to create your own version of the work. There is no charge for the tracks although please consider making a donation towards the musicians who produced these sounds for you. If you wish to include any of the sounds in your track(s) please email peter.birkby@talk21.com to discuss terms. All music, the recordings and the performances are copyrighted worldwide 2014.

Produced by Peter R. Birkby, recorded by Al McNichol

The first performance was on the 26 June 2014 at the Joseph Bramah public house in Barnsley performed by the Mixed Metals Percussion Ensemble; Peter Fairclough - drums, Steve Kohut - timpani, Peter Birkby - glockenspiel, Leo Le Hu - marimba, Philip Steventon - vibraphone, Mat Dabbs - percussion, Keith Ramskill - percussion and Nigel Chapman - percussion. “no vestige of a beginning, - no prospect of an end.” (Hutton 1795).
The audience chose to start the piece at Vista 11 (percussion trio) followed by Vista J (percussion quintet) and we continued in number and alphabet order from these points. With possibilities of over 600 versions of this music, depending on different starting points, there could be a few more albums to come or you could just order the tracks to suit your preferences.
